Rail Links

West Exe

Dawlish

Dawlish like Exeter is on the main line and most train operators will allow between 3 (Crosscountry) and 5 bikes (First Great Western) to travel on a train. Please make sure you book a space on the train to ensure you can travel with your bike.

Dawlish Warren

The next Station down from Dawlish is an ideal stop if you are planning on staying and want to combine a holiday with cycling.

Starcross

In addition to the railway station the ferry to Exmouth crosses just across the railway bridge. Please be aware that you will have to struggle up some stairs which is not ideal if you have panniers loaded.

North and East of the Exe

Exeter St Davids

The main route and connection for most of the routes in and out of the South West. If you are coming from the North or South East this will allow you the onward travel to Exmouth, Topsham, Exton, Lymstone, Dawlish, Dawlish Warren or Starcross.

Where to Park?

Dawlish Railway Station

At the very start of the trail this is good place but does get very busy as beach goers also use it.

Dawlish Warren

An ideal place to start lots of car parking space and is very easy to get on the trail.

Starcross

Not a lot of spaces here but if you want to use the ferry across to Exmouth this is an ideal start point.

Swans Nest - Bird Sanctuary

Quite difficult to find if your new to the area. Head towards Dawlish and as you come to the mini roundabout at Exminster/the Swans Nest turn left and follow the gravel path until you see the car park. Ideal for getting to the Lock Keepers cottage and the Topsham Ferry.

Double Locks

If you want an Exeter start point this is ideal and should offer a lot of car parking spaces. Fifty yards down the road on the left you can enjoy a pint at the Double Locks pub.

Exwick

Apart from the British rail car parks at St Davids this is the next nearest car park and will allow you to ride through the quay and enjoy some of the beauty of the city.

Countess Wear

A lot of Exeter's club rides start from here as it is a central point for anyone based in the city. This is a great start point and allows you easy access to the trail whether your heading to Turf or down to Exmouth.
